Google’s much-anticipated new phone, the HTC-designed Nexus One, could make its debut next week.
Google has scheduled a press event for Tuesday, January 5 at its Mountain View, California, headquarters. Though the company hasn’t mentioned Nexus One, the invitation mentions Android, Google’s mobile operating system for phones, and the company is widely expected to show the device that has had smartphone industry watchers buzzing for weeks.
The invitation-only event will be held two days before the Consumer Electronics Show begins in Las Vegas and just one day before many CES exhibitors have scheduled major press conferences.
It’s a move straight out of the Apple playbook. In January, 2007, Apple famously upstaged CES when it unveiled the first iPhone at an event in San Francisco — even as most technology journalists and executives were huddled in Las Vegas for the trade show.
Google hasn’t commented about Nexus One. But recent online leaks suggest the Nexus One will be a GSM-device with a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi connectivity, accelerometer and compass. It is expected to run the latest version of the Android operating system, Android 2.1.
Where Google could really innovate is how the phone is sold. The Nexus One is likely to be sold unlocked, which means consumers don’t have to be tied into long-term contracts with telecom carriers. T-Mobile, which offered the first Google phone, could provide “billing, coverage, features and rate plans,” says TMONews, a blog that tracks T-Mobile. The Nexus One could also go on sale the morning of Jan. 5, says the site, though there’s no word yet on possible pricing.
Will Google offer expensive unlocked handsets in the United States — a la Nokia — or can it come up with a clever model to subsidize the device cost through mobile advertising or carrier support? Google’s press conference next week should answer that question.

Project Natal
By taking the whole idea of a user interface into another galaxy, Microsoft's Project Natal makes Nintendo's once stunning WiiMote look a bit like a floppy disc next to Natal's Micro SD card. With Natal you can talk, gesture, and move your entire body in response to the on screen image, and Natal will read it all with uncanny precision.
While gaming applications for the Xbox are the initial target, I expect this technology will go on to affect the way we humans interact with all kinds of machines. Could the days of the good old mechanical switch be numbered?
Unveiled and demo'd earlier this year, the first "Natalized" Xboxes are expected to go on sale in late 2010. — Michael Trei
Do you have trouble remembering passwords? Well, there's one thing you'll never be able to forget: your own face. The Lockface USB drive uses facial recognition to ensure that you and only you have access to your most precious files.
To set it up, you simply take several photos of your face. Then, when you sit down in front of your webcam, it'll be able to confirm that it's you with 98% accuracy. There's a password failsafe, but that's how you got into trouble in the first place. Just use your face.

Tips Green Computing Untuk Ruang Kantor Anda
Hematlah kertas.
Coba upgrade RAM, sebelum memutuskan ganti komputer.
Screen saver is not energy saver. Pilih matikan monitor daripada menggunakan screen saver
Pilih virtualisasi daripada pembelian hardware baru (hemat 70% energi)
Pilih peripheral berlogo energy star
2. Green Computing on Laptop
Gunakan power saving setting
Kurangi penggunaan backlight
Atur layar dan harddisk sleep/off setelah beberapa menit tanpa penggunaan
Upgrade RAM sebelum ganti laptop
3. Green Computing on Paperless Method
4. Green Computing on Paperless Education
Ingat bahwa chatting untuk pacaran or godain orang, are not Green Computing!
5. Green Computing on Paperless Branding and Marketing
Called the Leopard, Japan's Oki Electric Industry Company and Okamura Corporation have developed a robotic chair that will rise up to meet you as you sit. It's based off of a robotic set of legs the duo developed that better simulates jumping for bipedal 'bots. The chair doesn't jump, but it will tilt to cuddle you, bringing both the seat and the backrest in to greet you. It'll also gently push you upward when it feels you stand.
The companies describe the sensation as "seating comfort akin to being held in someone's arms." It's currently designed to handle folks weighing 120 to 130 pounds (which pretty much counts the rest of the world out) and is slated for a 2009 release. The Japanese firms plan for more variations of the cuddly 'bot to be available in the future.
Some gadgets are so cool they don't need a specific function or grandiose purpose designed to save the world. Such is the case with the DVR Camball. The tiny Death Star-black orb functions as a digital video camera and an mp3 player. Complete with standard headphone jack and data input port the camball is perfect for the amateur spy-in-training, or for indie filmmakers in search of a crazy new camera angle. The package also comes with a special necklace holder that will allow you to simultaneously lifecast your daily travails while preserving psychedelic 60s fashion memes. The power to take your obscure device fetish to the next level is yours for just $185 here.
The opening day of the Olympic Games in Beijing, we thought it was prime time for a look at the high-tech athletics gear that's being used at the games today that wasn't around four years ago in Athens. The much-publicized LZR Racer Speedo is just the tip of the iceberg. One technology that won't be appearing, however, is Oscar Pistorius' running prosthetics, which at least one person thinks is a good thing, lest Olympic athletes eventually start competing with cyborgs. Another big tech on display at the games is unprecedented broadcasting, the highlights of which we've neatly broken down for you by the numbers.
Who says a PC has to be rectangular, or even square? Designer Apostol Tnokovski thinks the PC world is round, and conceived this 6-inch orb-shaped number as his proof. Not only is E-Ball oddball shaped, it’s called “the smallest PC ever made.”
Take a look at the pics, and you'll see the pop-out laser mouse, a pico projector inside thatilluminates either the wall or a sheet of paper for a screen, and that laser keyboard that would almost certainly be a clumsy input device. Fix that, and find a motherboard that’ll fit inside this palm-sized baby, and Apostol might be onto something here.
Looks like telepresence really will be all the rage in the future. The TMSUK-4 created by Japanese robotics developer Tmsuk will let shoppers enjoy the full tactile experience of browsing shelves without having to step into the store. We were all ready to compare the idea to the immortally reclining meatbags from Pixar's WALL•E, but Tmsuk handily disarmed us with their demo. The robot allowed — get ready to awww — an infirm grandmother to shop with her granddaughter.
One of the best things, the altered TMSUK-4 doesn't take an expert to control. It can be guided with simply a cell phone. Granny used the keypad to control the robot and, using Japan's superior cell phone technology, watched through the robot's eyes as she got her granddaughter to model several hats for her. For Tmsuk, seeing the robot in action makes a future where shoppers all over the world can peruse the streets of New York and London easily imaginable.
The demonstration took place on July 10th at the Izutsuya department store in Kitakyushu, Japan.
With the Iron Man set to be the biggest block buster movie of the summer, everyone here is getting very excited to see it. We love anything mavel. Check out the trailer for the film - it looks so good
Now that Iron Man is here, it got us to thinking: Could we build our own Iron Man suit? Not just a costume, but a functioning apparatus that could perform the miracles the spectacular marvel in the movie does? Well, not really. We’ll have to pass on antigravity tech and jets blowing out the bottoms of our feet that are hot enough to roast our tootsies like marshmallows — never mind that the suit clearly breaks the first law of thermodynamics, creating energy for free.
But still, we could come close to a few of the feats of the Man of Iron. Suspend your disbelief, and follow along with the real-world corollaries to the wizardry of Tony Stark, billionaire industrialist and genius inventor, also known as Iron Man.
CEO Rinspeed, Frank Rinderknecht, mengakui pembuatannya terinsipirasi mobil bawah air yang digunakan James Bond dalam film "The Spy Who Loved Me" yang dirilis tahun 1977.
~What is sQuba??~
A Swiss company called Rinspeed has recently announced its newest project: an underwater car. Named "sQuba," the car can both drive on roads, and then - at the push of a button - dive up to 10 meters (33 feet) under the sea. Rinspeed describes sQuba as the world's first real car to drive both on land and underwater, thanks to some cutting-edge technology. The car has a steel chassis, while its lightweight body panels are made of carbon nanotubes. An electric motor provides rear-wheel drive while on roads. Underwater, two propellers in the stern and two jet drives in the bow propel the "amphibious" vehicle. With zero emissions, the design is even environmentally friendly, eliminating any pollution into the sea.
The two-seater also includes a self-contained on-board oxygen system to supply the driver and passenger with fresh air for breathing.
Rinspeed CEO Frank Rinderknecht admits that part of the inspiration for the underwater car comes from the 1977 James Bond hit "The Spy Who Loved Me." The sQuba concept symbolizes the realization of this fantasy that once sparked his imagination.
"And exactly thirty years later this amazing - yet at the time animated - film sequence materializes and becomes reality, in today's world," said Rinderknecht.
The sQuba car will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show, which runs from March 6-16, 2008. However, mass-production of the car is not planned for the foreseeable future.
